Event Recorder Printout
of Three Mile Island Accident
The accompanying print out of the events at Three Mile Island
Nuclear Power Plant arrived in the mail one day in an unmarked
envelope. To those who are familiar with nuclear power plant
operation, it reads like the best of a spine tingling horror story.
By the time I reached page 4, and read that both steam generators
had boiled dry 1 minute 45 seconds "into the transient" as it is called,
I had broken into a cold sweat and my heart was racing
about 120 beats per minute.
Three Mile Island was the most successful disaster in the history of the world.
A multi-billion dollar event with the potential for tens of thousands of deaths,
contained by design in a cement sarcoghagus.
A cement sarcoughagus that the Russians had to build AFTER the event at Chernobyl.
